John Danaher at Fightcross MMA & Fitness

On January 18th, 2023, world-renowned Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) expert, John Danaher, held a seminar at Fightcross MMA & Fitness in Albion, Brisbane, Australia. The seminar was highly anticipated by BJJ practitioners from all over South East Queensland, who were excited to learn from Danaher’s analytical approach to teaching BJJ.

Danaher is a highly respected figure in the BJJ world, known for his analytical approach to teaching and his expertise in the sport. He is the head coach at Renzo Gracie Academy in New York City and has trained some of the most successful BJJ practitioners in the world, including Georges St-Pierre, Garry Tonon, and Gordon Ryan. His reputation precedes him, and the opportunity to learn from him was a once-in-a-lifetime experience for many of the participants at the seminar.

The seminar was well structured, with clear instructions and a buzzing atmosphere of camaraderie and shared passion for the sport. The 80 participants of all levels, ranging from white to black belts, were eager to learn from one of the most respected coaches in the BJJ world.

Danaher began the seminar by introducing himself and sharing his philosophy of teaching BJJ. He emphasized the importance of understanding fundamental principles, drilling techniques and positions, and experimenting with techniques to adapt them to each individual’s style of BJJ. Danaher also spoke about his analytical approach to the sport, and how he aims to break down complex techniques into simple, understandable steps.

The seminar covered different styles of guillotine chokes, each focusing on a different situation. Danaher focused on the concepts of the chokes, including the importance of grips, posture, and pressure. He showed several techniques to control the opponent and move into advantageous positions for the guillotines.

Danaher delved deep into specific techniques, showing the participants how to apply them in the different scenarios. He also demonstrated several different styles of the guillotine chokes and why elbow position and control is so important.

The seminar concluded with a Q&A session, where participants had the opportunity to ask Danaher questions about BJJ, his coaching philosophy, and his experiences training and coaching some of the best BJJ practitioners in the world.

The seminar left participants feeling inspired and motivated to continue their BJJ journeys. Danaher’s analytical approach and emphasis on fundamentals resonated with the attendees, who appreciated the opportunity to learn from one of the most respected coaches in the BJJ community.
