This month marks a proud milestone for Fightcross MMA & Fitness, as our Head Coach Master Ross Cameron has been officially promoted to Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under Robert Drysdale — one of the most respected figures in the sport.
Ross’s journey on the mats has spanned decades, built on a lifetime of dedication to martial arts, continuous learning, and personal growth. Already a highly accomplished martial artist with multiple black belts across traditional and modern disciplines, this new rank represents a fresh chapter in his ongoing pursuit of mastery.
Receiving this honour from Robert Drysdale, a World Champion, ADCC Champion, and UFC veteran, makes the achievement even more meaningful. Drysdale’s lineage and teaching have shaped some of the best Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practitioners in the world, and Ross’s promotion under his guidance reflects years of discipline, perseverance, and commitment to the art.
“I started BJJ back in 2010 as a white belt, just wanting to learn something new and challenge myself. I never imagined how much this art would shape my life.”
Over the years, Ross has trained under some of the most respected coaches in Australia and the world, each playing a key role in his evolution on and off the mats:
- 2010 – White Belt: Began training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
- 2013 – Blue Belt: Promoted by Vincent Perry, who gave Ross his first real understanding of the grind and discipline behind the art.
- 2016 – Purple Belt: Awarded by Nic Barker, who helped him develop a deeper appreciation for the technical and philosophical sides of Jiu-Jitsu.
- 2022 – Brown Belt: Promoted by Robert Drysdale, marking a new level of refinement and understanding.
- 2025 – Black Belt: Awarded by Robert Drysdale, recognising fifteen years of dedication, consistency, and contribution to the art.
“It’s hard to put into words what this means. Fifteen years of lessons, failures, friendships, and small steps forward — all adding up to something far bigger than a belt.”
Ross expressed deep gratitude to everyone who has shared the journey with him — coaches, teammates, students, and friends — whose influence and support have made the achievement possible.
“The black belt isn’t the end — it’s just another beginning.” 🙏
At Fightcross, Ross continues to embody the philosophy that martial arts is more than just combat — it’s about community, character, and continuous improvement. His achievement stands as an inspiration to students of all levels, reminding us that the path to Black Belt is not defined by speed, but by consistency and purpose.
Congratulations, Ross, on this incredible achievement!
Your leadership and example continue to elevate everyone at Fightcross MMA & Fitness.
