Aftershock Ring Girl – Katina Fimmel

We catch up with Aftershock Ring Girl, Katina Fimmel. Since winning the Ring Girl competition, Katina has made a name for herself getting sponsored by sports nutrition company, ASN and various clothing brands right here in Brisbane.

Here’s a quick interview with her, as we prepare for Aftershock 12.1!

How have you been Katina? What have been up to since the new year?
I’m great! So much has been happening. I took a much needed break after attending the V8 Supercars as one of the V8 Supercar Chillettes at the end of last year, but now I’m back into the swing of things, working around the clock and studying at the same time. I’m planning to become a Personal Trainer and get my own business going, so if you’re in need of a P.T in future, think of me! Hahaha.

What are you looking forward to at Aftershock 12.1?
As a model, being a Ring Girl for Aftershock is one of my favourite jobs. I really love MMA, so it’s such a thrill for me to be a part of something I enjoy and am so passionate about. Aftershock just keeps getting bigger and bigger and it’s so great to see! I love the energy all the boys (and girls now, yew!) bring to the cage. I really admire all of the hard work the fighters put in and being among such an enthusiastic crowd makes for a really good time.

Do you prefer watching a stand-up or a ground game fight?
I dabbled a tiny bit in BJJ so I enjoy watching a good ground game now that I understand it better – that said though, everyone is a little sadistic inside and wants to see a good knock out every now and then!

What’s your favourite thing about being a ring girl?
I basically get paid to have the best seats in the house. It’s the biggest win ever.

Would you ever get the in cage?
Haha! I’m too precious about the face! I’m still a bit of a girly girl and I’m pretty passive-agressive so I don’t think I’d do well in there at all. I might consider heading back into BJJ this year and get into some grappling competitions later on when I gain confidence. I do know that one of the other ring girls, Mel Stavris has a bit more back bone in her – maybe some time she’ll hop into the ring!

Who is your favourite fighter?
Georges St-Pierre because of his pure skill and passion, followed closely by Forrest Griffin because he’s a funny as hell guy, but I would not want to piss him off.

What is sexier, an MMA fighter or a humorous guy?
I love humor too much! I think in general I’m attracted to the ‘Alpha Male’ type – which a lot of MMA fighters are, but he’s got to be funny or I’ll lose interest in about 3 seconds flat.

What do you do in your spare time?
I have no spare time! I’m either working, organising gigs, am at the gym or I’ve got my nose in books…. I used to play a lot of Skyrim in my spare time, but then I took a textbook to the knee….. Uhh… yeah.

What are you looking towards to for the rest of 2012?
I’m looking forward to getting my favourite person in the world back in a few months and trekking it to Europe for a romantic rendezvous! I’m excited about starting my empire (I never have half-assed plans) and of course am looking forward to all of the Aftershock tournaments 🙂

Any final words?
I want to thank all of you guys who helped convince Aftershock to keep me on board as a permanent member of the team. I had no idea after doing that first gig that I would get to come back, even though I wanted to (I had so much fun)!
Winning that Ring Girl Competition had a bit of a butterly effect on my life and actually became a big turning point for me in terms of my personal health and career prospects. So many good things have happened since that day – I feel so lucky to have been in the right place at the right time.
I promise I’m going to do my best to help make Aftershock the best it can possibly be in any way I can.

Oh, and by the way, the new ring girl outfits are going to blow your minds.

See you at 12.1!

Ciao! x
