Aftershock 12.1!

Saturday, 10th of March, saw an explosive all action MMA spectacular at the sold out HAMMA arena in Brisbane’s Bowen Hills. 

Aftershock 12.1 brought MMA athletes from far and wide and from all weight divisions together to lock horns in one of Brisbane’s largest debut fight competitions.  The atmosphere in the HAMMA was electric as a loud and proud Queensland audience filled, ready to be ignited by MMA action in the cage.

The atmosphere of the event was absolute first rate with all of the competitors supported by huge crowds of family and friends of all ages. The event was a total sell out with every inch of the HAMMA arena filled with am energetic and enthusiastic crowd that got one hundred percent behind the action. Loud and proud and vibrant MMA fans from all walks of life were brought an electric and fantastic energy to the event that set the tone in the cage to fever pitch. With the addition of great food and an open bar the stage was set for an atmospheric and phenomenal sporting event.

The first fight saw three rounds of action between the welterweights, Paul Luu and Zachary Inglis, that ended in a Unanimous Draw after both fighters gave their absolute all.

The next saw Fighcross MMA’s Cameron McNab submit his opponent Lucas Bowman by an awesome rear naked choke in the very first round.

The next fight was a middleweight battle between Jim Hireme and Scott Gaby. The fight was stopped in round two, after the referee declared Jim Hireme victor by Knock Out. Jim Hireme went on to receiving Knock Out of the Day!

The fights started to really heat up as Greg Wynne and Adrian Rodriguez stepped to go three rounds with Greg Wynne emerging the victor by unanimous decision.

The next match of the under 70kgs lightweight, Fightcross MMA’s Marco Schlauri went three rounds with his opponent Michael McCulloch to emerge the victor by decision.

Up next Seti Tanuvasa took on Shannon Lamb at under 93 kilos and after three rounds Shannon Lamb was ruled victor by split judges decision.

The last match up before halftime was the special under 18 competitors providing a meeting between Joel Woodham and Jayden Eynaud with Jayden submitting his opponent by rear naked choke in the 2nd round.

After a short break the crowd and fighters were eager for more action and they weren’t disappointed when Mark Small stepped up to defeat Matthew Spiller by TKO in the first round.

In the next fight, after 3 rounds of hard competition Layton Pryor emerged victorious over Harley Taylor from a unanimous decision.

Next Jackson Terra met Joshua Lowe and after just one round of competition, submitted his opponent with a spectacular arm bar, which was awarded Submission of the Day.

The next fight had a huge atmosphere and the crowd was at fever pitch as the Fight of the Day in the female division pitted Shauna Carew against Kaela Banney. After one and a half rounds of awesome athleticism, Shauna emerged the victor submitting her opponent by rear naked choke.

The next fight Jake Taylor met Teal Wood but the fight was stopped in the second round due to injury with Jake Taylor ruled the victor.

Michael Pascoe defeated his opponent Mark Brady in the very first round by arm bar.

The second last matchup of the day saw the giants of the superheavy division slug it out in the cage with Marcus Atirai emerging victorious over Mason Aull due to verbal tap out.



The final match up was state versus state, QLD versus SA as Cory Birtles-Eades met Adam Watts and after just one round Cory submitted his opponent with a spectacular rear naked choke to the roars of the crowd.

Aftershock 12.1 was a huge event with stunning displays of sportsmanship, athleticism and performance that have seen it become one of the best, if not the best C-Class MMA competition in Brisbane.
