Mixed martial arts (MMA) is a hybrid combat sport that allows both striking and grappling, standing and on the ground, combining techniques from a range of combat sports and martial arts.

MMA most closely represents the “without rules” scenario of a fight. Traditional martial arts (as taught for sport/fitness) generally have an emphasis on a particular aspect of fighting such as standing striking or take downs without striking and a ruleset that eliminates the need for cross training.

Our classes focus on integration of skills from multiple martial arts into a “game plan” for fighting in standing, transitioning and prone positions. Examples would include instruction in striking while prone and how to utilise the cage in competition. Our MMA classes are designed to be an extension of taking discipline specific classes. Classes are generally focused on skill development and sparring, cardio specific training is rare but is developed extensively through participation.

Equipment: Shooto Gloves, Rashie (Shirt) and MMA shorts.

Brazilian jiu jitsu (BJJ) is a martial art and combat sport that focuses on grappling and ground fighting which promotes the concept that a person can successfully defend themselves against a larger, stronger opponent through the use of proper technique and leverage.

BJJ was developed from Judo in the early 20th century by the Gracie family in Brazil. Unlike modern sport Judo which emphasis standing throws and takedowns, BJJ focuses on ground fighting without striking, instead using limb locks, chokes and other submissions to subdue an opponent.

Described as “The Gentle Art”, BJJ classes emphasises active engagement with your opponent (training partner) through both drilling and sparring. This hands on, “live”, approach is possible due to lack of striking (injuries) and is part of the reason BJJ is cited as one of the best martial arts for self-defence.

Our classes focus on development of core techniques, positional control, usage of weight and the concepts behind skills such as guard passing. Our style of coaching differs in that we do not spend as much time repetitively drilling a single technique, but instead emphasis understanding the components of a technique to make it applicable in multiple situations. BJJ significantly develops your core, muscular endurance (especially upper body) and flexibility.

Equipment: Gi & Belt, Rashie (Shirt) and MMA shorts.

Kickboxing fuses a number of combat sports, including Karate, Muay Thai and Western boxing, to create an all-encompassing stand-up striking martial art.

“Kickboxing” was first developed in the 1960’s and was a solution to the lack of full contact striking competitions that existed worldwide outside of Boxing. The sport has developed significantly since its inception incorporating techniques from multiple disciplines and creating or redesigning techniques constantly.

Our Kickboxing classes draw upon our coach’s wealth of knowledge in the striking arts across many disciplines. We strive to maintain current, drawing in world class coaches and competitors to provide their knowledge to our members. Classes focus on skill development drilling real combinations and movement, not just “how to punch” though the basics are forever on our minds. You’ll see massive improvements in agility, flexibility, stamina and explosive power from training in kickboxing.

Equipment: 16oz Boxing Gloves, hand/wrist wraps, full length + instep leather shin guards.

Boxing is a classic Western martial art and combat sport exclusively using the hands to strike. As a sport it is known for developing agility, explosive power and stamina.

Boxing, the act of using fists to strike an opponent, has existed in one form or another in every culture from prehistoric times till now. It was an Olympic sport in Ancient Greece with the modern rules and styling being codified in London in the late 19th Century.

We teach classical boxing for the development of striking precision and power, stamina, footwork and agility. Classes generally include cardio sets, skill development drills and sparring.

Equipment: 16oz Boxing Gloves and some form of hand and wrist wraps.

Wrestling and Judo are combat sports involving grappling techniques such as clinch fighting, throws and takedowns, joint locks, pins and other grappling holds.

How to approach, clinch/control and takedown an opponent is an incredibly important part of MMA and BJJ.

Wrestling and Judo are at their core very similar; the goal is to take your opponent to the ground and either pin, stun or submit them. In application they have many similarities, but also have many significant differences. Most notable of these is attire. Judo is generally practiced in a Gi unlike wrestling, but most techniques are able to be transitioned for no Gi usage.

We train both disciplines in individual classes and also as part of MMA + BJJ classes. We emphasise takedown training as a key component of grappling skill & competition both on mats and in the cage. Classes will work to develop technique, speed, power and timing.

Equipment: Gi & Belt, Rashie (Shirt) and MMA shorts, Wrestling boots (in applicable classes).

Strength and conditioning are programs targeted at fitness and physical performance for both our fighters and general members. They involve a mix of HIIT sports specific cardio training + strength training exercises usually done in circuit or Bootcamp styles.

Martial arts instils self-esteem, focus, respect and confidence in young people. Martial arts training gives your son or daughter the chance to strengthen the mind as well as the body.

We have two youth programs targeting Kids (6-12yrs old) and Colts (13-17yrs old). Because of the differing levels of maturity and size we recommend discussing with the coaches which cohort is best for your child.

All of our youth programs focus on developing fundamental skills, coordination, stamina + strength. Our Kids programs aim to be engaging with sports specific games, gymnastics and fun. We want kids to leave with a smile every time they train as this is the key to engaged, willing and developing children.

Our colts classes focus on skill development + conditioning and will often be integrated into adult classes. Coaches are mindful of pairing colts with people of appropriate maturity, skill and size to facilitate their development.

Equipment: Equipment is dependent on the particular class a child or colt is attending and in most instances is identical to the equipment listed under particular classes above.

We provide additional services including personal training, corporate workshops & seminars
